Rags to Riches

For our friend's birthday, we decided to throw a party based on the phrase "Rags to Riches." Guests were invited to dress for the theme. We asked them to either be "a rag" or "a rich." For "a rag" we suggested being cut off jeans, sleeveless t-shirts with holes, old shoes, etc. For "a rich" we suggested more formal attire, such as suits, ties, formal dresses, etc. The best moment of the party was when the guest of honor surprised us all by showing up in a white tux! I think this a great and inventive theme, perfect for any adult party. I certainly recommend it for anyone! Hope this provides some inspiration for your next bash!

Décor For decorations, we used black and pink to continue the contrasting feel of the party. For next time, I would love to use garbage bags to create traditional party decorations, such as a banner or table skirt. There certainly are a lot of ways to take this party depending on your budget.

Food For food, our initial plans were to provide sushi and cheetos, but alas, our college student budget didn't allow us carry out those plans. Again, there are many ways to take the menu with this theme. If you want a heavier menu, I think corn dogs and shrimp cocktail could be a great option.

Drinks For drinks, we served champagne and cheap beer. More expensive wine could also be used.

Other elements Although we didn't do this, I think making a play list with classical music mixed with whatever your guests might consider to be "cheaper" music could be a lot of fun. Possible party favors could be zip lock bags filled with chocolate gold coins, fake gaudy jewelry, and fake hundred dollar bills. Use your imagination and have fun!
