Gingerbread House for Habitat

Christmas Cottage Party Just like grownups build houses for Habitat for Humanity, children can build Christmas Cottages out of graham crackers. 6 square graham crackers plus one graham cracker cut on the diagonal, some M & M's, 1/2 a Brach's toffee roll candy, a small peppermint candy cane, a Santa Claus chocolate wrapped in foil, and some royal icing in a zip lock bag are all it takes to make each house. Cut a small notch out of the corner of the zip lock bag to make the piping bag when you get ready to turn the zip lock bag from a storage bag into an icing bag. You will also want paper plates to put the finished houses on. Have children make at least two houses one for the child and one to take to the area where the Habitat House is being built, or to share with the Habitat builders in your community. After the cottages are made and the icing is drying, serve milk and hot chocolate. Let the builders eat the broken cookies and left over graham crackers and left over candy. They get to take home their cottages.
