Get Healthy with Whole Wheat Flour

White bleached flour may be the most popular flour on the shelf, because it looks clean, it has a long shelf life and is inexpensive, but whole wheat flour is actually much better for us.  It contains the macro-nutrients of the wheat's bran and germ (especially fiber and protein).

Whole wheat is a good source of calcium, iron, fiber and other minerals like selenium.

This means when you bake your son's birthday cake with it, you won't feel so bad about sneaking that second piece.

I exchanged the 3 cups of white flour for 2 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour in my favorite chocolate peanut butter cookie recipe,whole_wheat_flour the chocolate disguises any difference in the taste, the cookies are a little more dense, but also more filling.  Mission accomplished.

Experiment with whole wheat flour the next time you bake. Remember that it is heavier than white flour, so you can use less of it, and also doesn't rise as much, so you can fill more of your cupcakes than usual.  Since whole wheat flour has a shorter shelf life than white bleached flour, buy in bulk to save and share the cost and goods with friends.

Go all out and have a whole wheat baking party, we would love to hear about it.
