Reindeer Food for the Kids

Last year's favorite Christmas memories .... I created red and green bags of reindeer food filled with shredded wheat cereal, cheerios and glitter, for my husband's grandchildren.

The outside of each reindeer bag had a personalized note from Santa, reminding the kids he was still checking his naughty / nice list and it gave instructions how they had been selected for the reindeer food task the night of Christmas Eve. How important it was for Santa's reindeer to get food that night and the feeding procedures they should follow. The little one (under 2) was reminded not to eat the food himself, it was only for reindeer. Older siblings were asked to help the younger with getting the food sprinkled all over the front yard, since there were so many reindeer and they needed to see glitter so they could judge landing space. After all, reindeer were used to roof tops landings, not front yards.

Reindeer food bags were anonymously left on the front door steps of their home during the day.

Well....you can imagine the excitement when the kids realized that Santa had been to their house in the middle of the day, how could they have missed him? Where was he now, he'd vanished and they didn't even see his sleigh.

Once the children took time and the letters from Santa were read, they were amazed that they'd been chosen to feed Santa's reindeer, Christmas Eve. This became such a big deal, it was the discussion on the school bus, in front of classrooms and to all family members with a phone or screaming distance.

Reindeer Food

I love this idea! My daughter came home from preschool with a bag of reindeer food last year and I thought it was so precious. We sprinkled it on the lawn too, and it added yet another level of excitement to Christmas eve.
