Answer: Ladies Weekend "Women in Medicine" Theme

I find this topic fascinating and so very cool. I have a couple of ways you can go for this affair - one skews "kitsch" and the other has a more sophisticated "Curie" feel.

I'm not sure what you mean by "appointment schedule topics" so, if you leave me a comment further explaining this, I'm happy to give it a shot.

First, the "kitsch" idea. I wrote several Celebrations articles with suggestions for TV show parties. One of the articles entitled, Doc Dramas and Fab Lab Shows, gave ideas for a "Grey's Anatomy" or "House" party such as:

  • Cocktail "Shot" Station - Use flavor injectors, which look like hypodermic needles but are used for food purposes, to mix cocktails.
  • Tabletop Test Tubes - Check local or online sources for a rack of test tubes meant for food and fill the tubes with salt, pepper, and seasonings.
  • Prescription Party Favors - Fill unused pharmacy pill containers with jellybeans or mints, and personalize the labels, such as "Joe's Less Stress Pills".

    • Now, if you want a party that exudes elegance and science, ala Marie Curie, start with a table display using large apothecary jars. I was in Target the other day - who am I kidding, I am in Target twice a week! - and saw footed glass jars with glass tops that resemble antique apothecary jars. Create a bed of white pebbles in the bottom of the jar and then add a couple of sculptural flowers, an orchid, or a small succulent plant.

    Consider a buffet display with 3 alike apothecary jars, where 2 contain flowers and a center jar holds an antique piece of medical equipment such as an old microscope on a bed of pebbles. Sounds funky, but if you choose handsome colors like a chocolate brown tablecloth, aqua napkins, crisp white plates, and a monochromatic floral layer such as celadon green cymbidium orchids in the jar, (take a breath) you will have a gorgeous party.
