How to Make a Classic New York Hot Dog with Papaya King

Hot dogs are just as much of a New York attraction as the Statue of Liberty and Times Square. Instead of hitting up one of the many sidewalk hot dog carts, head over to Papaya King, an iconic hot dog joint that's perfected the 100% beef frank. Locally sourced and topped with New York onions, dark brown mustard and sauerkraut, Papaya King's Home Run Complete is a treat that can't be missed. 

Since Papaya King has mastered the New York hot dog, we went directly to the source to show us how to make the iconic recipe. We hopped inside their new food truck, and the Papaya King himself Wayne Rosenbaum showed us how it's done!

Even if you don't live in NYC, you can get their hot dogs shipped to your home. With some creative homemade toppings, it will be just like taking a bite out of the Big Apple. For your next BBQ or grilling party, be sure to grill up some Papaya King dogs and serve up the delicious New York toppings. Your guests will be so impressed! 

  • Hot dogs, preferably Papaya King's 100% beef franks
  • Hot dog buns
  • New York-style pushcart onions (click here for the homemade recipe)
  • Sauerkraut
  • Dusseldorf mustard (dark brown mustard)

After your hot dogs are all grilled, place your hot dog in the bun. Start by adding the dark mustard onto the sides of the bun so you can taste it with every bite. 

Add your sauerkraut down the middle and on the sides. Top with pushcart onions, and enjoy! 

Party Tip: Set up a hot dog topping station the next time you are grilling out so guests can make their own creations.
