Yankee Doodle Push Pop Patriotic Dessert

Yankee doodle push pops are the perfect patriotic dessert recipes for both kids and adults. Perfect for both 4th of July and Memorial Day, these sweet treats are too cute to resist!

This summer everyone is still riding high on the push pop craze, and luckily—if you have an army of small guests to feed at your 4th of July party—there’s no easier way to make all those little mouths happy. These frozen summer treats aren’t just fresh, sweet and fun to eat, but they also make menu planning as simple as this: layer, chill and serve!

If time is an issue, you can even turn this into a DIY party craft that will keep your young guests engaged in a pre-snack activity that requires little to no adult supervision. Using layers of vanilla cake, fresh strawberries, ice cream and sprinkles, there is no end to the creative variations that can be put together to make this push pop a Yankee Doodle good time for everyone! (Yes, it’s true — this dessert is maybe even more fun to make than it is to eat!)

For this recipe, you’ll need to buy reusable plastic Push Pop containers, which you should be able to find fairly easily at a party supply store or craft store. Some grocery stores may even carry them too!

  • 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream
  • 4 sliced strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon of sprinkles (ideally blue, or red and/or blue)
  • 1 vanilla cupcake
  • Plastic Push Pop container

Give each child a Push Pop container, then instruct the children to layer the ingredients to create a striped red, white, and blue pattern all the way up the pop, using the cake as the base for the pop, and the ice cream as the final topping.

Once filled, either enjoy the pops immediately, or freeze to serve later.
