Summer Watermelon Sorbet Recipe

In my opinion, a ripe watermelon is one the best summer desserts. You don’t really see it during other seasons, and if you do, it doesn’t taste quite right. But when it’s finally available during summer, it’s always sweet and delicious just like I remembered from the previous summer.

Next time you’re at the store, buy a ripe watermelon and make this easy watermelon sorbet. All you need is the juice of that watermelon, some sugar, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Throw everything into an ice cream maker, and you’ll have delicious watermelon sorbet in no time!

  • 1 Medium Watermelon, should turn into about 4 cups of Juice
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • Basil, for Decoration
  • Ice Cream Maker

Place a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl. Set aside.

Remove the skin for the watermelon and cut into 2-inch pieces. Place the pieces of watermelon into a food processor and pulse until the watermelon has completely pureed. Pour the watermelon puree through the strainer into the bowl; you might need to work in batches depending on the size of your strainer. Press the watermelon through the strainer to release all the liquid. Discard the thick chunks of puree. Strain the liquid one more time to make sure there are no large chunks.

Stir the sugar and lemon juice to the watermelon liquid. Pour the liquid into the ice cream machine. Freeze according to the manufacture instructions. Place the sorbet into a sealed container and freeze for at least an hour to firm up.

To serve, remove the sorbet from the freezer and allow it to soften before scooping. Scoop the sorbet into cups or bowls and then place a sprig of basil on top for decoration.
