Spicy Honey Roasted Sunflower Seed Snack

To make sunflower seeds more flavorful, we created a recipe where the seeds are slathered with honey and chili powder. These flavors meld together to create a sweet and spicy roasted sunflower seed that is much more unique than your average snack.

When you go to a baseball game, it’s inevitable— if you look on the ground, you will likely see opened and eaten sunflower seed shells everywhere. That's why, when brainstorming food ideas for a baseball-themed party, (see my post on how to decorate and my Homemade Cracker Jacks recipe) it seemed not only appropriate, but also necessary, to include some spin on this classic ball game snack!

The great thing is that you can make these seeds ahead of time, which will save you some of that last-minute party rush. The seeds will last up to two weeks in a sealed container.

Come party time, simply take the seeds out and serve them in small condiment cups. The condiment cups accent the baseball theme and also give each guest their own individual-sized serving.

3 cups Sunflower Seeds

2 tablespoons Honey

2 tablespoons Chili Powder

Pinch Salt

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F.

Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper. Set aside.

In a medium bowl, toss together the sunflower seeds, honey, chili powder, and salt.  Stir until the sunflower seeds are fully coated.  Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the sunflower seeds until crispy, about 20-30 minutes.

Once finished baking, remove the sunflower seeds from the oven and place them on the counter to cool completely.  Break apart the sunflower seeds as much as possible.

Store in a sealed container until ready to serve.  These last up to 2 weeks in a sealed container.
