Rice Krispies Treat Star Pops Patriotic Dessert Recipe

Traditional Rice Krispy Treats get the patriotic treatment when turned into starts and topped with a little red, white, and blue.

What’s not to love about Rice Krispies treats? They’re quick and easy to make, not to mention absolutely delicious! And because these snacks are such great desserts, I’m always thinking of ways to make them even better or customize them for special occasions, like the 4th of July.

To put an Independence Day twist on these treats, I cut them into star shapes, then I dipped them in white chocolate and sprinkled them with red and blue sprinkles. To bring these treats over the top, I stuck lollipop sticks in the bottom, making them into cute star pops. These simple steps made these Rice Krispies treats the perfect sweet snack for celebrating the 4th of July!

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • 10 ounces (1 large bag) of marshmallows
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 2 cups white chocolate, melted
  • Red and blue sprinkles
  • 12 lollipop sticks
  • Star Cookie Cutter

Butter the bottom of a 9x9 baking pan and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth. Stir in the vanilla.

Remove the pan from the heat and add the cereal to the marshmallows; stir until the cereal is completely coated with the melted marshmallows. Continue stirring until the cereal is coated and there are no melted marshmallows on the bottom of the pan.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and use your hands (you can put butter on your hands to make it easier) to press it down into the pan. Let the treats sit in the pan on counter until completely cooled and hardened, about 30 minutes.

Using a star cookie cutter, cut the rice crispy treats into star shapes. Dip each side of the star into the melted white chocolate, being sure to leave an empty stripe in the center of the star. Sprinkle the red sprinkles on one end of the star and the blue sprinkles on the other end. Place the star on parchment paper to allow the white chocolate to harden.

Once the white chocolate has completely hardened, stick a lollipop stick into the bottom of each star. Place the star pops into a cup and serve. Enjoy!

Note: These last up to 5 days wrapped in plastic wrap or in a sealed container.
