Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta Recipe

Check out our Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta Recipe and discover more inspiration on Celebrations.com

Heirloom tomatoes are the precious gems of the produce aisle. Not only are these strictly seasonal fruits a pretty pick, but they are a little bit sweeter, and a little more suppler than your average tomato.

Their unique flavor and colors lend heirloom tomatoes to a wide range of dishes - from tarts to salads and even this tangy recipe for fresh bruschetta. Bright in color, and bold in taste heirloom bruschetta is a summer staple for tomato lovers.

As temperatures rise and summer’s bounty follows suit, this refreshing appetizer is sure to hit the spot on even the balmiest of nights.

3 pounds heirloom tomatoes, diced

3 garlic cloves, minced

8-10 basil leaves, chiffonade

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, plus more for toast

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 baguette

In a small bowl combine the tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar; season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Cover the bowl and allow it to sit while preparing your toasts.

Preheat the oven to 375°F and cut your baguette into 1/2-inch thick rounds and arrange on a non-stick baking sheet. Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the tops of the bread slices and bake for 5 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve your toasts warm with heaping spoonfuls of bruschetta and enjoy!
