Creative Kids Lunch Idea: Bear Sandwich

It’s no surprise that children love to play with their food. So how excited will your kid be when he or she opens the lunch bag and finds a sandwich that looks like a bear?

Making this bear sandwich might seem complicated, but it’s really very simple. You only need a few different sizes of round cookie cutters. Even if you don’t have cookie cutters, you can always find different items around the house to make the bread and cheese into rounds. Just follow the full recipe below!

  • 2 pieces of white or wheat bread
  • 1 slice of any cheese you want (for inside the sandwich)
  • 2 slices of deli meat
  • 1 slice of any white cheese, like mozzarella or white cheddar cheese (for the face)
  • 1 slice of yellow cheddar cheese (for the eyes)
  • 5 blueberries
  • 2 toothpicks
  • Mustard

Using a 3-inch round cookie cutter, cut each slice of bread into a circle. Place a slice of cheese and the 2 slices of meat in between the 2 circles of bread.

Using a 2-inch round cookie cutter, cut the white piece of cheese into a circle.

Using a small dollop of mustard, “glue” the 2-inch circle onto the sandwich, near the bottom of the bread.

Using a small round cutter, such as a large piping tip, cut 2 small circles in the yellow cheddar cheese. Use the mustard to glue the 2 circles as eyes at the top of the round white cheese. Place 2 small blueberries on top of the eyes and another blueberry below to act as the nose. (If you are worried that the blueberries will move around, you could use a toothpick to secure them.)

Insert a toothpick into the center of each remaining blueberry, then stick the other ends of the toothpicks into the top of the sandwich to act as ears. Place the bear sandwich in sealed container to store.
