Welcome a New Season With a First Day of Spring Brunch

Spring is in the air! Is there anything more fun than entertaining when the weather is getting warmer? You may not be able to host outside just yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t throw a terrific party that honors the changing season.

Brunch is a natural choice for a spring gathering—a brunch party feels light and joyful, the perfect way to start a spring day. You can even host your party on or around the actual first day of spring, March 20th.

Here are some ideas for how to host a fresh, fun spring brunch.

Focus on Fresh Flavors

Consider what’s in season when planning your menu. Asparagus, artichokes, beets, peas, spinach, and ramps are just a few of the seasonal veggies that might inspire your food preparation. Try a chopped egg and bacon salad with asparagus or a fluffy artichoke tart. A delicious citrus salad will add some color to your table, too. Drinks should be light and crisp, like mimosas or easy cocktails.  Make sure you balance heavier breakfast foods (like quiches and baked goods) with lunch fare, so guests leave feeling full and satisfied.

Don’t Forget Dessert

We don’t often think of brunch as a big time for sweets, but why not include some after-meal options for your guests? There are a myriad of tasty spring-inspired dessert ideas that will go perfectly with your party theme. One or two options, like cherry-blossom cookies or lemon petit fours, are all you need. If you want your dessert to work double-duty as part of your décor, pick up a Cheryl’s Cookies Sunny Day Cookie Flower Pot, which can serve as both charming centerpiece and delicious dessert.

Use Bright Colors in Your Décor

Spring is the ideal season for whimsical, colorful party decorations and favors. Choose a color scheme of three to four hues that fill you with joy and then plan decorations around that general color family. Party supply stores or even your local big box store will be sure to carry accessories that fit your theme. A wreath will animate your front door or entryway, while a cheerful mantle sets the mood for the party. If you have time to DIY, adding some personal touches will make every guest feel special.

Keep Flowers Simple

Flowers are a must-have for any spring table. You can gather them yourself if you’ve got a great garden—homegrown flowers add a wonderful feel, even if your plant life isn’t too plentiful at the beginning of the growing season. But any flowers you choose are sure to delight your guests, whether you go with common spring blooms like tulips or daffodils or another flower that fits your color scheme.
