DIY Chalkboard Bottle Decoration

Turn your empty wine bottles into a beautiful centerpiece with a little help from chalkboard paint! Read on for the simple how-to.

For our vineyard themed wedding we wanted table markers that continued our elegant, yet rustic wine-inspired look that started with our invitation.

So, we made chalkboard wine bottle "signs" for the tables. You can either put the table number on them or place a bunch of flowers in them with the individual guests' name on it. This is a quick and easy decoration project to do, and the bottles can be used over and over again. The uses are endless!

If you have plenty of time, start saving those empty wine bottles to use for this project. Otherwise, you can obtain empty bottles from local wine makers supply shops.

Follow these easy instructions to make your own chalk wine bottle centerpiece for your next celebration!

  • Enough bottles to set on each table
  • Black chalkboard paint
  • Chalk or Chalk markers

When beginning to spray your empty wine bottles with chalk spray, make sure that you are in a well ventilated area, preferably outdoors. Hold the bottle away from you and spray each bottle with chalkboard paint. Let them sit outside and allow to dry.

After a few hours, recoat the wine bottle with a second coat of chalk spray.  Once again, let it sit outside and dry for about 24 hours.

Once it's fully dried, use chalk markers or regular chalk to write messages or table numbers on the bottle. You can top the bottle with a cork, a candle, or flowers if you like.

The possibilities for these bottles are endless. You can place them on a table at an elegant engagement, or use them at a kid's pirate themed party as messages in a bottle. You can place messages in them and send the kids on a scavenger hunt! Or even simply use them as party favors that the kids can color on endlessly. These chalk sprayed bottles are cool to display and easy to make!
