Summer Strawberry Daiquiris: One Delicious Cocktail, Three Ways to Enjoy

Summer and strawberries go together like daisy chains and grass underfoot; nothing says summer like a cold strawberry daiquiri.

Take everything you think you know about a daiquiri and toss it aside. Thick, sugar-packed premade daiquiri mix? No way. When you blend fresh ingredients together, you’ll never have it any other way. The beauty with how simple this drink is to make, is that you can serve it any number of ways: on the rocks, blended with ice or frozen for the ultimate summer party drink.

Traditional Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

The recipe below is for an ice blended strawberry daiquiri, which can easily be made in any household blender. Swap out the fresh strawberries with frozen for an even colder beverage. All of the ingredients for a traditional strawberry daiquiri (below) can be used for my variations.

Strawberry Daiquiri Popsicles

For those hot summer nights when you’d rather be at the party than beside a blender, make a batch of popsicles using the lime juice, coconut water and strawberries, allow it to set overnight – adding the rum to the popsicle will make freezing them a challenge, instead, serve your frozen popsicle in a glass with an ounce of light rum. The fun with this method is the rum becomes a dipping sauce, or better still, as the popsicle melts, the drink makes it self, allowing your guest an option of how to enjoy their daiquiri.

Virgin Strawberry Daiquiris (and Popsicles!) for the Kiddos

To dazzle your younger guests, replace the rum with coconut water and blend all the ingredients before adding them to a zipzicle bag, freeze over night, and then serve as a frozen treat that will have them asking for more. For an added treat, add a few whole strawberries to the blend, it will give them an extra crunch.

  • 8 ounces of light Rum
  • 2 ounces of fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce of coconut water
  • 24 standard fresh strawberries, chopped
  • Ice

Add your rum, coconut water, lime juice and strawberries to a blender and blend until smooth.

Once smooth, add in the ice and blend again. Pour into glasses, and serve garnished with a lime wedge.

Makes: 4-6 daiquiris
