Simple Moss & Terra Cotta Christmas Tree Centerpiece

Little moss covered trees line this holiday table for a Christmas centerpiece that's inspired by the beloved evergreen.

I anchored the centerpiece on a silky table runner with evergreen clippings from the trees in my yard, which tied everything together both visually and aromatically.

For a quick, simple and inexpensive way to add evergreen to your home, try this minimalistic, yet festive and elegant Christmas centerpiece craft.

  • 9 1/2 inch styrofoam cones
  • 1 package of sheet moss
  • scissors
  • green floral pins
  • small terra cotta pots
  • styrofoam blocks to anchor the trees
  • moss
  • 1/2 inch width branch from an outdoor tree

Step 1: Wrap a sheet of paper around the styrofoam cone and cut around it to make a pattern

Step 2: Lay the paper pattern on the sheet of moss and cut out with scissors.

Step 3: Wrap the moss around the cone--trimming as needed to get a good fit.

Step 4: Secure the moss to the cone by inserting green floral pins through the moss into the cone, at the seam.

Step 5: Tuck the moss in at the top of the cone and secure with a floral pin.

Step 6: Cut an outdoor tree branch into a 6 inch length.

Step 7: Stick the branch into the center of the base of the wrapped cone to form the trunk for the mossy tree.

Step 8: Cut the styrofoam block into chunks that will fit snugly in the terra cotta pots.

Step 9: Poke the trunk of the tree into the styrofoam in the pot, and then cover the edges with moss. Arrange your table with the trees, a runner and ornaments for a festive display, and that's it!
