Savory Sopapilla Recipes

Sopapillas are like delicious cinnamon-sugar pillows, sent directly from heaven. The fluffy, yet buttery texture lends itself nicely to being filled with honey, caramel or chocolate drizzle.

Basically, they are probably one of the most delicious kinds of dessert you will ever encounter. I remember my family vacation to Arizona and New Mexico when I was very young, mostly because of the authentic sopapillas we got to devour. I have never been able to find any as fluffy and delicious as those were, but that doesn't mean I can't try to recreate the magic on my own.

I've found some homemade sopapilla recipes that look as good as they hopefully taste. Although I probably won't be able to replicate the recipes exactly, it's definitely worth a try. For an impressive dinner party dessert, or if you're looking for a sweet treat to enjoy on Cinco de Mayo, try making a savory sopapilla. And don't forget the honey!

Crescent Roll Sopapillas

This recipe from Oh Bite It makes it all too easy to fry up some delicious sopapillas. All you need is a roll of Pillsbury crescent rolls -- they already come in the perfect sopapilla shape! -- and a pot of oil to deep fry them. Don't forget the powdered sugar and honey.

Chocolate-Drizzled Sopapillas

If you HAVE to have chocolate on your dessert (which is a fair necessity), this chocolate-drizzled sopapilla recipe from Food Babbles is just for you. The savory fried pieces of dough are topped with a homemade chocolate sauce. What's not to love?

Star-Shaped Sopapillas

For a fun, bite-sized option, these star-shaped sopapialls from Taste of Home are just as fun to make as they are to devour. All you need are some cookie cutters!
