Jewel Flower Place Card and Favor

Faux flowers and jewels bought from the craft store can be turned into pretty spring decorations for your next dinner party that double as a favor, too.

Faux flowers and jewels bought from the craft store can be turned into pretty spring decorations for your next dinner party that double as a favor, too.

  • acrylic faux jewels – assorted
  • scissors
  • marker
  • ruler
  • X-acto knife
  • small artificial flower
  • cardstock

Step 1: Trim the stem off of your artificial flower as close to the base as possible. If it sticks out a bit at the back, you can pull it up from the inside of the flower slightly -- you’ll want the base of the flower to be as flat as you can make it.

Step 2: Select the jewel you would like to use as the center of your flower. Place a large drop of hot glue on the back of the jewel and press into the center of the flower.

Step 3: Trace a small circle onto your scrap paperboard and cut out. It should be slightly smaller than your flower. Add hot glue to the printed side and cover with a fabric scrap. Press down to smooth out the glue and trim away the excess fabric. Carefully poke a hole through the circle using your scissors or x-acto knife.

Step 4: Add hot glue around the base of your flower and press it against the fabric side of your cardboard circle, lining up the hole in the circle with the remaining portion of the stem on your flower.

Step 5: Next, mark where you’d like the pin base to go on the cardboard circle. It should be above the center in the upper half of the circle, as that will allow it to fall evenly when worn and not flop over. Add a strip of hot glue to the top of the pin base and press it to the marking on the cardboard circle. Set aside.

Step 6: Prepare your place card. Select two coordinating colors of cardstock. Cut one into a 6 inch square and cut the other into a smaller circle. I used decorative scissors here but you can use regular as well. Glue the circle inside the square so that it is evenly centered.

Step 7: Using your x-acto knife or scissors, make two small slits in the center of the card about one inch apart. Slide your pin between these two slits and fasten it closed from the back.

Step 8: Write the name of your guest on the card and place one card at each setting. Guests have a fun keepsake accessory to wear home and remember their delightful evening!
