How to Host a Mother's Day Breakfast in Bed: 10 Must-Know Tips

Hosting the perfect Mother’s Day breakfast in bed takes planning. You want to make sure the special mom in your life has an unforgettable morning, and you want to make sure it all goes smoothly.

Anything short of mapping out a menu and creating a memorable experience is a missed opportunity in the making. To serve something magical, here are 10 steps towards creating a Mother’s Day breakfast in bed that offer both a special treat and all the warm fuzzy feelings that every mother deserves on her special day.

1.      Find out how she wants to eat.  Does she want a family style meal in the bed or on her own?  Once you know, plan it out so she can enjoy her breakfast in bed.

2.      Every great breakfast in bed starts with a beautiful tray, not only to keep all the crumbs at bay, but also to present the breakfast in a way that captures the heart of the experience.  The tray pictured is a repurposed tray painted black with a simple hand outline in white paint to embrace the on trend chalkboard theme that everyone loves right now.

3.      Get everyone involved, even the youngest of children can spread butter on toast, it does not matter what it looks like, so long as everyone participates.

4.      Plan the menu based on what she loves to eat and keep it simple enough that you do not spend hours preparing it.  A simple menu of individual baked eggcups, fruit salad, oatmeal and crispy bacon are a great foundation for a great breakfast.  And if a last-mintue menu is required, even a muffin and coffee from the local deli is appreicated.

5.      Stock up her favorite reading material, in print or on her tablet and ensure that it gets delivered with her breakfast tray; even if she does not ask for it, it is the gesture that will be remembered.

6.      Avoid delivery spills by using tall carafes or glasses to serve juice and coffee in; or go big with a single pot of coffee.

7.      Serve coffee alongside a personalized cup that doubles as a gift like the personalized mug from my Mother’s Day DIY series.

8.      Flowers are key to creating a beautiful tray.  Select flowers that are not too scented and large, and embrace small, lightly scented flowers to offer that little something on the day.  Better still; make handmade paper flowers that will never wilt.

9.      Go the extra mile and create a soundtrack – a variety play list full of her favorite songs, or a medley of songs from the soundtracks of the perfect Mother’s Day movies we suggest here.

10. Clean up the kitchen.  Nothing spoils a breakfast in bed more than a messy kitchen to clean up.
