DIY Giant Paper Snowflakes

Try this variation on standard paper snowflake decorations. This giant paper snowflake will add something flashy and bold to your winter wonderland celebration!

For the big snowflake in the center I made it out of brown wrapping paper. These snowflakes are a bit sturdier and heavier than the tissue paper snowflakes so keep that in mind. Also I had some issues with my paper trying to roll up on itself but painting it made it stiffer so that helped.

Supplies
  • Brown wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Fishing line
  • Hole punch
  • White paint (optional)
Directions

Step 1:Cut a long strip of paper the whole length of the roll and about 12 inches wide.

Step 2:You want to fold it 12 times. To make it easy fold it in half long ways, then in half again, then thirds.

Step 3:Unfold this and then using the folds you just made fold it accordion style 12 times. Fold one way and then back the other until it looks like this.

Step 4:Use a pencil and mark the design you want to cut. Once you have your design mapped out cut with heavy-duty scissors.

Step 5:While still folded, punch a hole through all the layers on the smaller inner side. Thread fishing line or thin string through the holes and tie while giving your snowflake space to fan out.

Step 6:Fan your snowflake all the way out and flip it over. Tape the two sides together. Turn back over again and space out your snowflake points.

Step 7:Since I used brown paper, I had to paint my paper white. I used two coats of acrylic craft paint. Once my snowflake was dry tape fishing line on the back and hang it up.
