Games & Activities for a Kids Spring Party

It's fun to come up with themed activities for a kids’ birthday party, and there are so many possibilities with a garden theme. Here are three simple activities to help get the party started, but remember—kids love to have time for “free play” as well!

Butterfly Hunt

Similar to an Easter egg hunt, you simply supply each child with her own butterfly net so they can go on a “hunt” to find as many butterflies as they can. All those Spongebob fans in attendance will certainly be familiar with this game, but in the land of bikini bottom this activity goes by the name of jelly fishing.

Parents: Ahead of time you will "hide" craft store butterflies around the garden space. Using the clip-on butterflies makes it easy to place them in trees and bushes, as well as grass and ivy.

Bird House Painting

Cover the table with kraft paper and supply each child with a solid color or unfinished mini birdhouse, along with acrylic paints and brushes. (Mini bird houses can be found in the unfinished wood section at the craft store.)

Let each guest paint and decorate her house as she likes. This can even serve as the party favor or take home gift, so be sure to help the kids create something they’ll want to show off to Mom and Dad!

Flower Ring Toss

Use a tall, thin garden stake and rings for a themed ring toss game. Look at your local garden center or craft store for metal or wooden garden stakes. The toy store or toy section will usually have yard games that include plastic rings that you can use for this game. Consider turning this game into a friendly competition to really get the kids excited.

Have a few prizes on hand that not only reward the winner, but celebrate the season as well! Prizes like seedlings, mini gardening kits, and even repurposed products are a great way to encourage kids to go green while celebrating their win.
