Family-Friendly Campfire Party: 5 Must-Haves

With these five essentials, you can ensure that you will not only be prepared for your fireside festivities, but that everyone will have a blast. Along with the items listed below, you can't forget your marshmallows and skewers to roast up your s'mores!

Cast iron pots and flame friendly pots and pans are essential for cooking outdoors.  A big stockpot, frying pan and small pot will allow you to cook a full meal on the open fire.  Before racing out and buying new ones, check out the supplies at your local thrift store, they often have a great collection at half the price.

2. Flame Retardant Blankets

Even next to the fire it can be chilly.  Be sure to pack 2-3 small flame retardant blankets to keep everyone comfortable all night long.

3. Lanterns

Sturdy hand held lanterns are better than flashlights for younger children and offer more light for those dark nights.  If you are camping at home, glamp it up a bit with DIY jar lanterns to keep the mood festive and bright.

4. Insect Repellent

Even with a strong fire next to you, flying pests can ruin a family night.  Rather than fog the campground, bring a can of bug spray to keep everyone free from unwanted bites.

5. Sturdy Basket
