Valentine's Day Decor: DIY Tassel Banner

Tassel banners are an easy way to add a touch of chic decor to any party. The best party? They are actually really easy to make! Although more expensive versions can be found on Etsy and other craft stores, our tutorial will show you how to make one for yourself (as long as you need it to be!) for a fraction of the cost.

The great thing about this tassel banner is it can be customized for any party and any color scheme! We made ours red, pink and metallic gold for Valentine’s Day, which would also be a fun color scheme for any girlie brunch, birthday party, or bachelorette.  And now that we’ve perfected this super easy DIY, the options are endless! Rock your favorite sports team colors for the Super Bowl, use your BFF's wedding colors for her bridal shower, or change up the theme for a kids birthday party. If you're like us and have stacks and stacks of tissue paper, then this craft is totally for you!

  • • Tissue paper
  • • Scissors
  • • Glue dots
  • • String

Step 1: Take 1 piece of tissue paper and lay flat. Fold in half, length-wise. Turn the paper so the folded side is at the top. Then fold one side over (in half) and then fold it once more again the same way.

Step 2:Making sure the folded side is at the top, cut strips into your paper.

Step 3:Unfold, and cut in half.

Step 4:Unfold again and cut. You should have 4 equal pieces.

Step 5:Unfold one of the fringed pieces and roll together in the middle.

Step 6:Create a loop with the rolled part and twist together with a glue dot to adhere it together.

Step 7:Repeat the above with the colors of your choice.

Each piece of tissue paper makes 4 tassels. I used red, pink and gold to make my banner. The gold-foiled paper is much harder to cut than the regular tissue paper. Once you have all the tassels you want, string them onto some ribbon or string and hang.
