DIY St. Patrick's Day Banner

A quick and very inexpensive way to get creative with St. Patrick's Day crafts and add a splash of holiday festivity to your home is with a seasonal banner made with patterned scrapbook paper. St. Patricks Day crafts are often filled with shamrocks, rainbows and pots of gold, so why not capture it all in a fun do-it-yourself paper banner decoration for St. Patrick's Day?

I love to add a little festive statement to my home to celebrate every holiday. I often decorate my entryway to reflect the season or holiday so that the greeting is right there when my friends and family come to visit. For my St. Patrick's Day crafts and decorations this year, I decided to go modern and bold. I used a quirky black and white polka-dot paper for my banner and then adhere those pieces to heavy card stock--in every color of the rainbow! There's sure to be a pot-o-gold at the end of that banner!

  • patterned scrapbook paper
  • card stock paper in white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet
  • adhesive
  • circle punches
  • shamrock stickers
  • twine
  • mini clothespins

Step 1: Cut the patterned scrapbook paper into a 4 X 5 inch rectangle.  Mark the center on the 4-inch side.

Draw a line from the corners of the 4-inch side to the 2-inch center mark at the bottom. Cut the triangles out.

Step 2: Cut the colored pieces of cardstock into 4 1/2 X 5 1/2-inch rectangles. Mark the center on the 4 1/2 inch side and draw the triangle as directed above. Cut the triangles out.

Step 3: Adhere the patterned triangles to the cardstock triangles.

Step 4: Using various sizes of circle punches, punch a small white circle, medium black circle and larger circles from the scraps of the colored cardstock. Layer the circles with adhesive. Place a shamrock sticker in the center of the circle. Adhere the shamrock design to each triangle--matching the cardstock colors.

Step 5: Cut a length of twine to the desired length. Lay the triangular banner pieces out in rainbow order. Use colored mini-clothespins to attach the banner to the twine.

There are so many great places to display your banner. It makes a cheery statement in your entryway by attaching it to a table or, you can suspend it across the doorway. If you are having a dessert table, this colorful banner is all you need to add a festive touch. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
