How to Throw a Chic Halloween Celebration

Your Halloween celebration doesn't need to be the standard mix of black and orange, Jack-'o-lanterns and ghosts. It also doesn't have to cost you a fortune. This year I decided to take inventory of the "skeletons in my closet" and use items I already had around the apartment to create a fun, chic and affordable Halloween serving display.

Halloween is a fun time to play around with some decor items you are already fond of, and mix it up with some seasonal touches, such as mini pumpkins or ears of corn. These elegant holiday touches are perfect for any last-minute Halloween celebration, or when you just want to go a little glam on Halloween instead of being scary.

Glam Cocktail Table Styling

Part of my chic-o-ween was setting up this fresh and trendy Halloween cocktail display. To create this look, I used a few staples I already have in my closets for other holiday celebrating and decorating purposes. I picked and chose items from a variety of seasonal decor I had on hand, including:

  • ● Silver trays I usually use at Christmas.
  • ● A mercury garden ball from my terrace.
  • ● Extra moss from my spring decor bin.
  • ● Cloche jar that usually houses an object in the den.

The mercury ball tied in nicely with the shiny metallic skull and cocktail shaker. The cloche was the perfect size for a white pumpkin, and the moss tied in the overall rustic feel of the ears of corn and pumpkin.

The pops of black worked well as part of the large candlesticks. If you just have white candlesticks, you can wrap them in black washi or electric tape to create stripes (you can paint them too -- just be sure to use non-toxic paint!)

Scary Fast Halloween DIYs

Black and White and Chic All Over

Take your standard dinner table candles from simple to stunning with just some washi tape, or painting stripes with non-toxic craft paint. I created a stand-out Halloween display using plain white taper candles, and carefully outlined stripes using painters tape so I could paint in between using black non-toxic paint. To complete the look, I displayed them in charcoal grey candle holders. The pops of black were still chic and added to the Halloween aesthetic. Tip: You could also use black washi tape or electric to wrap around to create the stripes

Hauntingly Easy Table Runner

Instead of buying a whole new table runner, I created a simple DIY using an old white curtain, and ripping the sides. The torn edges and loose fringe give it a haunted feel for virtually no money!

Chic Halloween Party Recipes

Haunted Halloween Popcorn:

  • ● Popcorn (such as White Cheddar Popcorn from The Popcorn Factory)
  • ● Your favorite candy pieces, such as M&Ms or candy corn

Mix together and serve in your favorite serving bowls. It's a delicious snack for adults and kids alike! I opted for some all-black serving ware for that haunted touch.

Pumpkin Patch Dip:

  • ● Store-bought hummus
  • ● Pumpkin puree
  • ● Garlic salt
  • ● Truffle oil

Mix a container of store-bought hummus with 2-3 tablespoons of canned pumpkin puree. Add a pinch of garlic salt, and stir together. Drizzle truffle oil on top.

I made the serving chic by serving out of a clear martini glass, with tortilla chips on a white tray.

Witch Tear Martini:

  • ● Jalapeno lime mixer (store-bought)
  • ● Vodka, gin or tequila

Give it a quick stir or shake, pour and serve!
