Celebrate Administrative Professionals Day

April 25th celebrates Administrative Professionals' Day in honor of all those people in the office who make the everyday better.

An unofficial and secular holiday, Administrative Professionals' Day pays tribute to the secretaries, assistants, receptionists and other support professionals in our lives.

While pressing deadlines, impromptu meetings or last-minute projects may litter your days, distracting you from uttering that simple "thank you" to your assistant, make sure you take the time on April 25th to let him or her know you're aware of how great they are and how much harder work would be without them by your side.

How it All Started

Since 1952, the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) has honored office professionals like secretaries, assistants and receptionists. The idea began with Mary Barrett, president of the National Secretaries Association, C. King Woodbridge, president of the Dictaphone Corporation and Harry Klemfuss, a public relations executive at Young & Rubicam.

Modern Celebrations

Today, Administrative Professionals' Day is celebrated all over the world. Here in America we honor our administrative professionals on the Wednesday of the last full week of April. This year, it's 60th anniversary, Administrative Professionals' Day is April 25, 2012.  Apart from birthdays and major holidays, it is the largest celebration in the professional workplace.

How to Celebrate

In addition to honoring the administrative staff with a special gathering in the office, it's customary for employers to show appreciation gifts like: flowers, candy, gift baskets, lunch out or even time off.

Here at Celebrations we're all for celebrating the everyday. The administrative staff at any office is responsible for making the day, everyday, easier and happier, so make sure you take the time on April 25th to celebrate all they do!
