Butterfly Napkin Rings

For this Mother’s Day Butterfly and Burlap celebration, I wanted to make some themed decor elements that everyone could do – even the non-crafters! Although we made a few crafty projects, there is nothing there that isn’t absolutely doable for even the most novice of novices.

Burlap is hugely trendy right now, and there are ribbons of all sorts made of burlap available. You’ll be able to find wire edge ribbon, stiff burlap ribbon and burlap edged with lace like the one shown in the pictures here. Any of these will work; you just want your burlap ribbon to have a bit of stiffness to it so it will hold its shape!

The feather/glittered butterflies are also widely available. Most craft stores will carry these near their floral sections. Sometimes they’ll come with pre-attached clips; if you can made the clip work as it is, fantastic! If not, go ahead and pop the butterfly off the clip before you attach it to the napkin ring.

Supplies
  • 7-inch strip of burlap ribbon
  • Premade butterfly
  • Hot glue
Directions

Step 1: Cut the ribbon into 7 inch strips according to how many napkin rings you plan to make.

Step 2: Loop the ribbon into a circle and hot-glue the loop together to create a ring. Let the hot glue set up. This part will form the “ring” part of your napkin ring.

Step 3: Glue your butterfly to the napkin ring. Think about where you’d like to place the butterfly before you glue; I like to put mine over the seam to hide it. You may prefer to put the seam to the back. A matter of personal preference, but be aware of the seam before you start gluing!

Step 4: After your butterfly is secured to the napkin ring, you’re ready to use it in your place setting. Choose a napkin color that contrasts with the butterfly so your pretty little creation really pops.
