Activity Ideas for a Gender Reveal Party

While baby showers are most often dominated by gift opening and table chatter amongst an all women crowd, gender reveal parties offer the perfect opportunity to get all the important people in a family's life together to celebrate a new baby with lots of fun and games.

Pit the two genders against one another with a few clever gender reveal party games!

The classic "is it a boy, or is it a girl" question is a natural way to encourage some friendly competition among gender reveal party guests. Get inspired to have some boy vs. girl fun with these gender reveal party activities!

You're Invited - Show Your True Colors!

Gender reveal parties have grown in popularity over the last couple of years, but there's still a good chance some of your guests won't quite get what a gender reveal party is all about, which is why your gender reveal party invitations are so essential. This celebration needs more information than most!

We love these great blue and pink round gender reveal party invitations from Pear Tree Greetings because they communicate what exactly this party is all about in a fun, casual way. There's nothing intimidating about it - just pure excitement!

Be sure to encourage guests to dress in pink or blue on your invitations, depending what gender they believe baby to be!

Cast Your Vote!

A focal point anchored by a chalkboard tally of guests' guesses is a must at a gender reveal party. Not only does it inspire the party's other activities, it also works as the perfect decor and is easy to DIY - just check out our tutorial.

You can either ask guests as they arrive, what they think baby is and mark it on the tally, or once everyone has assembled, go around the room as a group.

Baby Theme Games

Divide the guests at your baby gender reveal party into two teams - the pink supporters on one side and the blue supporters on the other. Then, depending on your crowd, whether you've got kiddos or willing adult participants, have some fun!

Baby food makes for the perfect guessing game. Purchase a few jars, remove the labels and offer a blind test taste. The team that gets the most flavor guesses correct, wins. We recommend finding the most off-putting flavors for added fun!

We're big fans of the classic baby sock toss where teams race to fill a laundry basket with rolled pairs of baby socks, bibs, onesies, etc. and the first team to do so, wins.

Another game? The crawl race. Race to one end of the yard (or living room) on all fours just like baby would! First team to have all players back at the starting line, wins.

The BIG Reveal

Whether you decide to play any of the other games, the big reveal has to be bigger than a simple "We're having a..." announcement at the end of the party. We've got a few clever ways to tell your family and friends the sex of baby.

Desserts are a popular choice to reveal baby's gender. Dessert is the classic signal that a party is almost over, so it's a natural reveal time. Cupcakes can be made ahead of time for everyone to bite into at the same time and hidden within will be pink or blue frosting to announce what gender baby is.

A few parents choose to skip the sweets and go with a bigger visual reveal. Bring everyone around a large cardboard box stuffed with pink or blue balloons filled with helium. When you're ready for the announcement, watch as the corresponding balloons to baby's gender float out!

Whichever way you choose to make your reveal, be sure to have the camera ready! You want to capture the moment and reveal as best as possible.
