Pink and Blue Gender Reveal Party

In the past couple of years a new trend has emerged and it’s called a gender reveal party. While the whole point of a baby shower is to gift mom-to-be with all the many things she’ll need for her new bundle of joy, a gender reveal party is simply about the fun and celebration around the timeless question of whether baby is a boy, or a girl.

Unlike a baby shower, a gender reveal party can be hosted each time a woman is pregnant and includes all the most important people in both baby’s life and the parents. This means the gathering is a bit more intimate and a mix of men, women and children.

Since the idea behind a gender reveal party is still a bit new, it’s important when planning one to consider a few tips. Once all of these pointers are in order, it’s all downhill in terms of planning. Don’t fuss over complicated or over-the-top décor and menu selections. Keep those simple and focus on the point of this party – having fun and celebrating a growing baby boy or girl at home.

Once you’ve got a date for your shindig, head to the doctor for a sonogram and get the official word – boy or girl? As the party host, if you’re mom or dad, you can request that your doctor seal the answer in an envelope so you can learn with your party guests just what gender baby is. If you opt to go this route, ask a trusted friend or family member to be responsible for the reveal. If you want a particular mode of reveal – color filled cupcakes or balloon box explosion, more on that in a bit – than request it!

After you’ve got that covered, it’s time to celebrate! As parents expecting, don’t feel required to make this a super complicated affair. Keep your guest list smaller and limited to those closest to you and baby. Then, treat everyone to dessert instead of a whole meal. You’ll save much needed funds and keep party time to a minimum. Finally, keep decorations budget-friendly and easy without looking tacky. Check out the gallery to get more inspiration on how to do just that!

  • We loved the pink and blue border on our invitation for its simple, yet festive appeal. There was nothing overly dramatic about it, but rather, it conveyed a message that our celebration was all about being casual and fun. To mimic that look and feel we decided to set up a focal point for our party in the form of a dessert and drink bar.

  • The front of the table was decorated using our invitation as inspiration with alternating pink and blue streamers hanging from the front. This design was simple and inexpensive but added tons of pizzazz to our party. The pink and blue balloons on the front of our invite also inspired the look of our party space. We went with a more traditional route and hung pink and blue balloons throughout the space, and even added a few to our dessert table.

  • Above our dessert bar we hung a DIY chalkboard tally poster we crafted. This was one of a few gender reveal party activities we planned. As guests arrived to our gender reveal party, they cast their official vote for baby - boy vs. girl!

  • As expecting parents, you want to keep party details simple. Skip an entire meal and go with an easy dessert spread. Jumbo marshmallow pops dipped in pink and blue candy melts are always a crowd pleaser and enhance the look of this theme.

  • And instead of pricey cocktails mom-to-be can't enjoy, serve up budget-friendlier blue and pink drinks. We opted for flavored lemonades, but you can customize blue and pink drinks easily to fit your taste buds' preferences.

  • Not only do pink and blue cupcakes fit in with the dessert bar, they're also the perfect little secret keepers! We love the idea of topping assorted homemade cupcakes with pink and blue frosting after filling them with the appropriately colored frosting to match baby's gender.
