24 Carat Oscar Gold Sugar!

Some celebrities took home a gold statuette on Oscar Night. Other stars were dazzled by edible 24 carat gold sugar on cocktail glass rims courtesy of a new technique by Wolfgang Puck.

The elegant red carpet and glamorous gold Oscar set the tone for this year's Academy Awards Governors Ball - the official Oscar party.

At a media event before the award ceremony, I interviewed some of the pros putting together the party, including the legendary Wolfgang Puck. Check out the video here!

Everyone was raving about the 24 carat gold sugar that Wolfgang Puck created, which was used to coat the rims of cocktail glasses.

Those who make cakes and confections may know that certain types of 24 carat gold are edible and can be used to decorate sweets. You can even buy shakers of edible gold flakes on line.

When it came to giving the rims of cocktail glasses the "Midas Touch", all the gold-colored sugar available was either too coarse or not the right shade of gold.

Puck came up with the idea to put the gold flakes in liquid, making an edbile spray paint. Then, he misted super-fine sugar a gorgeous gold color.

For the Patron "Red Carpet" Signature Cocktail, the rims of Cosmo glasses were dipped in lemon juice and then in the gold sugar to give them an award-winning touch! The results were spectacular and tasted incredible.
