The red carpet and iconic gold statuette have inspired this year’s official Oscar party theme of elegance and contemporary glamour. I was fortunate enough to attend a sneak peek of the Governors Ball, the Academy sanctioned party that celebrities attend right after the awards ceremony, and this year’s bash will top all others!

Nominees honored for their achievements in motion pictures and invited guests will enjoy an A-list line up of wine, Champagne, and specialty cocktails at the 80th Annual Academy Awards Governors Ball. Sterling Vineyards, a gem of Napa Valley, has crafted a custom blend of wines exclusively for Oscar night festivities. Laurent-Perrier offers its prestigious “Grand Siécle” Champagne and Patron Tequila has created a signature “Red Carpet” cocktail only for Oscar.

A sneak peek of the Governor’s Ball was meticulously staged for members of the press in order to offer a preview of the upcoming event. View even more of the details planned for this official Oscar party in my articles: Wolfgang Puck’s Menu and Event Design and see a gallery of photos in my blog, Partini.

Sterling Vineyards, a landmark Napa Valley winery will once again provide the featured wines for the Academy Awards Governors Ball. This is 5th consecutive year that Sterling has been selected for the event as well as the pre-show reception. Only a few hundred cases of the custom blended Gold Standard Reserve Chardonnay and Red Carpet Reserve Cabernet are produced each year for this party.

The wines will be poured to pair with an extraordinary menu created by Master Chef Wolfgang Puck, who will orchestrate the multi-course gala dinner for the Academy's 1,500 guests. In the words of Sterling Winemaker Mike Westrick, “For such a special occasion, and in such a limited quantity, we can really lavish time, attention and creativity on these wines.” Visit Sterling’s website for Red Carpet Recipes and a cool Academy Awards voting ballot to print out for your Oscar party at home.

Founded in 1812, Laurent-Perrier is recognized as one of the finest Champagne Houses in the world. Laurent-Perrier’s prestige cuvée “Grand Siécle” was prominently displayed at the sneak peek. Lustrous gold in color with a most delicate bead, this Champagne is both a reflection of Oscar night elegance and Hollywood glamour.

Over 500 bottles of bubbly will be poured at the Academy Awards Governors Ball! That’s what we call an Oscar Party!

Patron’s Signature Cocktails

At the Oscar’s pre-show reception, guests will enjoy The Patron “Red Carpet” - a signature cocktail made with fresh organic juices and served in a glass with a gold-sugared rim. For the Governors Ball, Patron has designed the The Ultimat “Envelope Please” cocktail, which will blend top-shelf spirits and fruit juices in a handsome Cosmo glass. See the recipes below in this article.

A Night To Remember…

The 80th Academy Awards Governor’s Ball will be a spectacular event! Wolfgang Puck has created a delicious, organic menu including a trio of red, green, and yellow ceviche served in a Cosmo glass and passed hors d’oeuvres like mini Kobe cheeseburgers. Pastry chef, Sherry Yard has outdone herself with gold-dusted “Oscar” chocolates, cookies and petit fours.

Celebrity florist and owner of MARK'S GARDEN, Mark Held has designed extraordinary centerpieces for the dining tables, which will be styled for nine diverse sections of the ballroom. Each section will have its own personality with unique tabletops, luxurious fabrics, and exquisite design details throughout the space.
