Sex and the City: Play Hooky for a Girls Day Out

The "Sex and the City" movie premiere is just a few short weeks away and it's time to make plans to see the chick flick of the decade. It premieres on a Friday, so you know lines will be wrapped around the theater after work. Instead of spending your night waiting in line, do what a true SATC girl would do: play hooky with your three best friends and treat yourselves to a Girls Day Out!

The Scene

Friday, May 30th, 2008: Women everywhere are going to be giddy with excitement for the big "Sex and the City" movie premiere. Take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime event and make a day out of it! Besides, if you sit at work all day you'll be distracted anyway! So, just call in sick (good girls like Charlotte can take a planned vacation day)!

Sick Day Tip: Make your sick day believable by starting to feign sickness the day before- this way, colleagues will believe you're really ill!

 

The Clothes

Every girl knows that half the fun of Sex and the City is admiring the outrageous, high-fashion clothes in which the ladies parade down the streets of New York City.

Channel your inner Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha or Miranda and get dolled up in your most fashion-forward outfit.

What to wear while paying tribute to your favorite "Sex" characters:

Carrie: Carrie's fashion m.o. is all about having fun and being eclectic. And, don't forget your accessories

Think:

• Bright capris
• A ruffled tuxedo shirt with button down, rolled up at the sleeves.
• Make Carrie proud with a nameplate necklace
• Big funky rings
• A gorgeous pair of heels (they need not be Manolos, but they do need to make a statement!)

Samantha: When channeling Samantha, think sexy working woman on the

• A flattering a-line knee-length dress with a classic cut - think modern-day Audrey Hepburn
• Classic, girlish accessories like an embellished headband or a cute little clutch

• A sexy, well-fitting pair of wide-leg jeans
• A cute wrap top or button-down with rolled up sleeves

The Plan

Spontaneity may be fun, but here's the bare minimum you need to accomplish for planning:

• Send out an invitation ASAP to let your closest girlfriends in on your SATC day plans.
• Call up a local brunch venues and make reservations for Friday, May 30th.
• Check your local theater listing times and pre-purchase tickets for
  an earlier showing.
• Research local hot-spots and pick a fun place for a post-movie after
• party with Cosmopolitans and other cocktails with the girls.

The Day Of the Sex and the City Celebrations

Brunch with the Girls:
Start your day off right with a delicious brunch at a local favorite. Catch up on each other's lives and dish girly gossip over mimosas and caviar.

Shop It Out:
Head to local boutiques to ooh and ahh over Jimmy Choos, Manolos and other designer duds. Pick out one special piece that you will always remember this day by, and add it to your outfit for the day. C'est chic!

Movie Time:
Pick a Sex and the City showing before the prime Friday night movie rush. Hopefully, you'll be ok with any showing that starts before 3:30 pm. This way you'll avoid the throngs and can secure prime seats to enjoy the main event. Don't forget to stock up on buttery popcorn, theater candy and super-size sodas. This doesn't happen every day, so live it up.

The After Party

After you've laughed, cried and reminisced with the four greatest heroines of modern times, hit up the hottest bar in town with your girls in tow.

Single ladies can throw coy looks to nearby men for free cosmos all night. But don't forget the mission for the evening: girl bonding time. So let the boys take you for a spin on the dance floor, but know that you'll be going home with the girls tonight.

For extra points, meet up at a local café in the morning to relive your fabulous night over mimosas and omelets! If you still have the energy, invite the girls to your place for a great spring brunch. This is one girls' night that you'll never forget.
