A Fun Father’s Day Breakfast in Bed

Make a Mess for Dad!

Dads are pretty easy. Give them the Sunday newspaper with a cup of coffee and they’re good to go! Make Father’s Day a blast for Dad by serving him a breakfast in bed that includes gourmet doughnuts on a fun handmade placemat. Relax. You’re not actually making the doughnuts, just jazzing them up with tasty toppings like chopped Heath Bars or Amaretto Icing and slivered almonds!

Dad's Breakfast in Bed Tray Decor

Have the kids create a colorful placemat for Dad’s breakfast in bed tray.

  • Their work of art can be as simple as a drawing with markers or a collage on poster paper. Then, laminate the paper to make it spill-proof.
  • For a more permanent design, the kids can use fabric markers on a white cotton placemat.
  • If your little ones can’t hold a pen yet, brush kid-safe paint on their hands or feet and mark up the mats!
  • Check in your local craft store for items that can be used to decorate fabric.

As a final touch on the tray, include a white flower in a small vase and a bell for Dad to ring if he needs anything while dining.

Perks for Papa

Perk up Dad’s breakfast with favors and fun activities just for him.

“I Do” Coupons for Dad

“I Do” will take on a whole new meaning for Dad with these little coupons. The idea is that the kids think of favors that they can do for Dad like weeding the garden or picking up their toys. The favor is written on a coupon for Dad to redeem.

Create the coupons using index cards or similar size paper. Mom can write “I Do” as a heading on the coupon along with the favor, and the child can sign their name at the bottom.

Movie Morning

Chances are, Dad has a TV and DVD player near his bed. Rent some movies to keep him entertained while he enjoys his breakfast. Give him a day of rest, only disturbing him when he rings the bell!

Gourmet Doughnuts

Gourmet Doughnuts

Take doughnuts up a notch by topping them with gourmet items for Dad. Most every other food outlet in America has taken flavor blends to the limit. It’s a wonder why doughnut shops haven’t followed this trend. Along with the doughnuts on a platter, serve some chopped fruit, fresh juice, and a big cup of coffee. If the kids want to prepare a feast for Dad, check out the recipes in my blog post Recipes Kids Can Make.
