Camp Rock is here, and your kids want to celebrate!

Starring the Jonas Brothers and newcomer Demi Lovato, the Disney Channel original has the inklings of a new High School Musical.

Whether you’re planning a Camp Rock birthday party or just want to make the Camp Rock movie premiere something special, we have ideas to make your party fun for you and the kids.

Invite Kids Over in Style

You can create your own guitar-shaped invitations with paper, or even create radio-shaped invitations too.

Send out uninflated Blow-up guitars with the invitations, and tell the party guests to inflate them at the party so that they can strum their guitars along with the characters in the movie.

Attire

There are many ways for your kids to get into the Disney Music Spirit!

Kids should wear:

1. Their parents’ favorite rock star t-shirts (get a great selection of rock and roll shirts from slingshotshirts.com!) 
2. Crazy 80s-era wigs from Amazon.com
3. 80s-style clothing: leg warmers, over-sized sweaters, headbands…

Outfits of other Disney Rockers like Hannah Montana, or even any High School Musical cast member works! Just as long as the kids get into the music spirit!

"Play My Music" Activities

Now that you’ve got a good-sized group of Rock Enthusiasts, get them in the zone while they countdown for the movie to begin (or even games during the movie’s encore showing).

Sing Like a Jonas Brother

1. Play Camp Rock Trivia after the first showing. During the movie, create questions and answers for the kids.
2. Any Disney trivia game, like High School Music, for example.
3. Karaoke Contest: With their inflatable guitars, microphones, and the help of YouTube, have kids compete.
4. Put on a show! Have the kids put on their own rock show, just like the kids in Camp Rock.

How To Make Your Own Stage:

1. If you have a porch or patio to use, then great! Skip to #3. If not...
2. Designate a patch of the partyroom to be the stage
3. Take rope, tape, or little rocks to outline the perimeters of the stage
4. If you have electric lanterns, tilt them pointing up in front of the stage with a few books.
5. If you have hand-held flashlights, tape them onto various pieces of furniture and have them point to the center of the stage. 
6. For extra ambiance, take out your Christmas lights early and adorn the stage-area with these colorful gems. 
7. The kids will have fun playing these games, and in return, they can win a Camp Rock-themed prize: Camp Rock shirts, backpacks, purses, and more are already on sale at Target!

Rock-Out Décor

Ask kids or their parents to send in their favorite camp photos from summer camps in the past. Decorate the party room with these photos on the walls.

To add a camp-feel, buy a tent, or even make your own tents with chairs and sheets.

Create a campfire indoors for the kids by: 

1. Slightly crumbling and rolling up brown sheets of paper to look like logs, or even use real logs, if you can!
2. Rolling down the rim of a brown paper sandwich bag to make a cuff 
3. Placing a votive candle in a glass holder inside bag
4. Surrounding the log-like paper around the center

Buy glow-in-the-dark stars and stick them around the walls and ceilings.

Most importantly, play the Camp Rock CD in the background so the kids will know and love the music even before watching the movie.

Food Fit For a Rock Star (or a Camper)

During the commercial breaks--or a break from the activities--the kids can enjoy the great outdoors with these tasty options:

• S'mores cooked over the mock campfires
  
  • Try having a selection of different chocolate bars (milk, dark, mint, etc)
  • Instead of Graham Crackers, use ginger snap cookies 
  • Add slices of bananas or strawberries
  • Drizzle chocolate sauce on top of the marshmallows, if you dare. 
• Bowls of Trail Mix
• Hamburgers, hot dogs, or a real camp favorite: Sloppy Joes.
• Popsicles
• An assortment of juices
