5 Great Ways To Celebrate Mother’s Day

Moms are such superstars! Breakfast in bed and flowers are a must on Mother’s Day, but that's just the beginning. It truly is the thought that counts on this holiday, and these ideas are both thoughtful and fun ways to celebrate mom on her day. Don’t forget a handmade card and lots of love!

1. Mom’s Choice of Makeovers

Make-Up or Spa: We love mom just the way she is, but every woman likes to “freshen up.” Does mom need new make-up or a beauty product rejuvenation? You could make an appointment at the local spa (like last year) or, better yet, pamper her with cool personal care gifts that she can use at home for more than just a day.

Philosophy is one of my favorite brands offering cosmetic, skin, and bath products all with inspirational titles like “Hope in a Jar” moisturizer, or sumptuous food take-offs such as “Strawberry Milkshake” shower gel. One tends to adopt the attitude of the product title when using it and what better gift for mom than that of hope, grace, and glossy lips that taste like pomegranate gelato! Along with the bounty of beauty gifts, hire an aesthetician or make-up artist to come to your mother’s home for a private session.

Wardrobe Update: Or, you can kick-off the wardrobe makeover that mom has been hinting about by hiring a personal shopper. Many department stores offer this service, where a shopper can make suggestions as to what works with your mother’s style and how to step it up.

Room Redo: If it’s a room in your mother’s home that could use a facelift, rally the family and perk up a room with new throw pillows, accessories, even a paint job.

2. Treat Mom to Tea

Afternoon tea is so civilized, and such a great way to spend time with mom. Many cities have at least one parlor or hotel that offers a traditional British afternoon tea with a savory course of finger sandwiches on a 3-tier tray, followed by assorted petit fours. And, ballroom dancing is all the rage these days - imagine dancing the Fox Trot with mom! For those families with grown-up kids, consider a wine tasting course.

4. Ride Off into the Sunset

Is mom a suburban cowgirl? A leisurely family horseback ride along a scenic trail would be a terrific Mother’s Day activity. Sunset Ranch in Hollywood, CA offers an evening ride to a Mexican restaurant where all enjoy dinner and then head back to the ranch. Check with your local stables or equestrian centers to see what’s available in your area.

5. Lounge in a Limo

Give mom the gift of luxury with an hour-long limousine trip around town. Top it off with Champagne, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and some of mom’s favorite nibblers to make this a millionaire's Mother’s Day.
